EE: Student Work
New material added July 11 2003!
One of the best ways to learn about ecological entrepreneurship is in the words of COA students who study and practice it. For starters, check out Jody Kemmerer's excellent summary of ecological entrepreneurship, Sustainability: An Overview. Jody's paper provides an introduction to some of the new ways of looking at how businesses can contribute to community sustainability. (Jody wrote this paper as part of an independent study during Fall term 2001.)
An important aspect of ecological entrepreneurship is green technology, buildings, and materials. COA already has several structures with notable green features, but is planning new student housing that will have green design features as its first priority. Students in the Sustainable Building Group Study kicked off the planning effort with a term-long project examining various aspects of green design; results of their work can be found in the Green Student Housing Report. The report gives an excellent overview of the human ecological dimensions of green housing. Project members were Doug Lerch, Erin Kavanagh, Jessie Morrow, Dustin Eirdosh, Ria Wacker, Sarah Anderson, Evan Bender, and Leeza Danylevich.
"Community Seeds: Explorations in Ecological Entrepreneurship" presents COA student Dustin Eirdorsh's vision and ideas regarding sustainable community business in the realms of community agriculture and forestry. Dustin's website is the result of an independent study he did Winter Term 2002.
Anna Wlodarczyk has written a comprehensive review of the history and governance challenges of globalization. In Globalization: What is the future of a globalized world? she argues that the United Nations should supplant the World Trade Organization as the dominant global economic policy-making institution.
